About the institute

The Institute for Digitalisation of Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (name at the time of its establishment: Institute of Learning Tools of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine) was established on June 16, 1999 by the decision of the Presidium of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated June 7, 1999 No. 988. Given the relevance of the scientific topic and the experience gained by the Institute, by the Resolution of the Presidium of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine dated September 21, 2006 in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 12, 2008 No. 400-r it was renamed the Institute of Information Technologies and Learning Tools.

The Institute is the main institution for the digitalisation of education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine and a leading scientific institution in the education system of Ukraine, whose activities are aimed at conducting fundamental and applied research on solving current theoretical, methodological and scientific and methodological problems of creating, implementing and using software and technical means of teaching and information and communication technologies in education. By the Resolution of the Presidium of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine dated January 27, 2022 No. 1-2/1-17, the Institute was renamed the Institute for Digitalisation of Education.

Since its foundation, the Institute has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology Valery Yukhymovich Bykov. In 2023, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine Spirin Oleg Mikhailovich was elected director of the Institute.

TASKS AND DIRECTIONS OF ACTIVITY

  • conducting theoretical and experimental research on the creation and use of teaching aids and information and communication technologies in the educational process of educational institutions of all types;
  • development of technical conditions, pedagogical standards, certification methods for teaching aids, devices, equipment and facilities, information and communication technologies in education;
  • engineering and pedagogical design of the information support system for the educational space of Ukraine, in particular virtual systems and systems of distance learning and education;
  • coordinating research, design and production activities related to the creation and use of teaching aids and information and communication technologies in education;
  • training of highly qualified personnel through postgraduate and doctoral studies, internships and advanced training of scientists and employees of educational institutions in the subject areas of the institute;
  • organisation and holding of scientific and scientific-practical conferences, seminars, symposiums, preparation of scientific and scientific-methodical printed and electronic publications, etc.

PARTICIPATION IN PROJECTS

DEEP-INVENTHEI project from EIT – EIT NEI and associated partnership with the Business and Innovation Network BIN@

The Institute for Digitalisation of Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine is involved in the DEEP-INVENTHEI project, which is supported by the European Union and aims to create an international innovation network for talented youth, promote their education and startups in the field of high technologies. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has launched a new program to stimulate innovation in higher education institutions (HEI). The goal chosen for 2021–2027 is: to increase the entrepreneurial and innovative capacity of the European higher education sector by facilitating and supporting institutional changes in higher education institutions, their integration into innovation ecosystems, and active promotion of DeepTech ideas. The EIT is an EU body and an integral part of Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

The EDUPORT project “V4 Educational Academic Portal for Integrating IT into Education” is supported by the international Visegrad Fund, https://www.visegradfund.org/. The project partners are 5 scientific and educational institutions from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine.

The Institute’s scientists annually participate in more than 100 scientific events in Ukraine and abroad. The Institute is a co-organizer of more than 10 conferences, scientific and practical seminars, most of which are international. Training courses are regularly held for pedagogical, scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers. Announcements about training courses are published on the official website and on the Institute’s pages in social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn).

Our publications and collections

The Institute’s electronic scientific professional publication “Information Technologies and Learning Tools” was created on the international modern publishing platform Open Journal Systems (jointly with the State Higher Educational Institution of the Ministry of Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. Year of foundation: 2006, 6 issues per year). In 2024, according to Google Analytics, the number of users of “Information Technologies and Learning Tools” exceeded 25 thousand people. Over the past three years, the journal’s electronic resources have been viewed by about 86,700 users from 198 countries around the world. The journal is included in the Web of Science Core Collection – Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). It received JCI = 0.42 (Q3) in the Education & Educational Research category and JIF = 1.0 (Q3) in the same category. The scientific publication is included in 52 databases and catalogs.

The Institute has developed and implemented the Electronic Library of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, which is created on an open platform – EPrints. The resource contains the results of scientific research by scientists in the educational sector of Ukraine.

Training of highly qualified scientific personnel

In 2010, the Institute initiated the creation of a new scientific specialty – 13.00.10. information and communication technologies in education and for the first time in Ukraine, postgraduate and doctoral studies (2011) were opened in this specialty. Also, since 2010, the Institute has had a specialized academic council D 26.459.01 for conducting dissertation defenses for the degree of Doctor (Candidate) of Pedagogical Sciences. Training is carried out according to the accredited educational and scientific program of Doctors of Philosophy “Information and Communication Technologies in Education”.

Since 2010, the Institute has launched a number of ongoing seminars to improve the quality of the process of training and certification of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel:

Fully supporting and sharing the principles of open scientific and educational space, our Institute is open to cooperation and dissemination of research results, for which it uses web resources and cloud services.
