Abilities + Information + Development = the path to successful future

This Workshop is designed to evaluate new and emerging technologies in education, learning environments and methods that have to satisfy life-long learning of person, from (pre-) school age to retirement. It covers such topics as: evaluation of a human (accounting schoolchildren, youth and adults features) abilities and individual propensities, individual trajectory of learning, adaptive learning strategy and design, recommendation on curriculum design, day-to-day support for individual’s learning, assessment of a human learning environment and performance, recommendation regards vocational retraining and/or further carrier etc.). All topics allowing for the appropriate ICTs that could break down the time, space and cultural differences of learners and teachers. The specific goal of this activity is to facilitate a broader understanding of the promise and pitfalls of these technologies and working (learning/teaching) environments in global education/development settings, with special regard to the human as subject in the system and to the collaboration of humans and technical, didactic and organizational subsystems.

Workshop Description

Global changes in education aimed at ensuring the transition from the post-industrial to a digital era as well as to knowledge society when human individual cognitive and creative abilities become crucial for the further development of mankind. Education tends to be more and more individual-oriented, securing individual psychophysiological abilities and development including their network (as a major learning/nurturing environment) security and safety.

Going beyond learning time and space constraints has become a crucial motivation. Social, business, education/learning actions now take place globally and in many time zones. Human knowledge and intelligence is now being systematically transferred to computers, allowing them (e.g. in the form of robots or automated systems) to operate autonomously even far away from the original time or space of its human originators. Moreover, that notation of space has expanded: new spaces have opened up like cyber space, Internet, cloud education etc.

Given the speed of communication and globalization of the transfer of information, knowledge, and perception, the constraints for learning time and space are become harder. Imagine a future when physical location and interaction in real time are no longer barriers for planning, working, commanding, learning, and social interaction. Certainly, technological advancements over recent years have made great strides and have shown that such a future is feasible. But is this a new world that will bring enormous benefits to our lives and activity or yet another technological promise that falls short of initial expectations? What new methods of Education, Learning, Nurturing, Human Performance and Interaction do we need in order to keep this development efficient, safe, and enjoyable?

This Workshop is designed to evaluate new and emerging technologies in education, learning environments and methods that could break down time, space, and cultural differences. The specific goal of this activity is to facilitate a broader understanding of the promise and pitfalls of the relevant technologies and working environments in global education/development settings, with special regard to the human as subject in the system and to the collaboration of humans and technical, didactic and organizational subsystems. The Workshop should lead to identification of areas in which coordinated research efforts are required to expand the understanding of these network technologies, their effectiveness, potential risks, and potential benefits of the new ways to educate, learn, and collaborate. This should refer to practical experience from education and training application to industry needs. .

Topics of Interest

3L-Person is to provide an international forum for the dissemination and exchange of scientific information on theoretical and applied areas of teaching/learning including:

• Learning/teaching with ICT: modern class-room, homeschooling, social networking, time management, network labs etc.
• Learning technology and environment: new and emerging technologies in education, learning environments and methods (gadgets for toddlers and seniors, cloud-oriented, individual-adapted, robust intelligence, synthetic environment, augmented cognition etc.)
• Individual abilities and development: high abilities, gifted, underachievement, ICT influence on a human development etc.
• ICT in education safety and security: cyber impact and cyber safety, human factors, human-system integration, human performance in cyber security etc.

3L-Person solicits:

(i) Regular (full) research papers

(ii) Short research papers

(iii) Discussion or problem analysis papers

Evaluation criteria are of the same as for the main ICTERI Conference. Please refer to http://www.icteri.org/icteri-2016-submission-types-and-evaluation-criteria for more details.

Submission Instructions

The workshop first solicits the submission of paper abstracts from which the Program Committee will accept the best based of their quality. The authors of the accepted abstracts will be invited to submit their papers which will undergo one more round of reviews and selection to be included in the conference proceedings volume – see also Publication section below.

Abstract submissions should be made electronically in pdf or doc/docx format. The authors should use the ICTERI electronic submission system at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icteri2016. Then choose “New submission” option, select the track “Int Workshop on Professional Retraining and Life-Long Learning using ICT: person-oriented approach”. Those authors who do not have their personal account at EasyChair have to create it using EasyChair before submitting their paper. For the paper type the authors of the abstracts should use “Short paper”.

Publication

The abstracts that meet the requirements of the Workshop will be peer reviewed by the members of the international program committee of the Workshop. The abstracts which are accepted based on the review results will be published in the Special Issue of the Journal of Information Technologies and learning Tools (http://journal.iitta.gov.ua/index.php/itlt).

The best selected 20 abstracts will be invited to be extended and published as papers. These papers will undergo one more round of reviews by the members of the 3L-Person Program Committee. Based on the review results the best papers will be accepted for the publication in the ICTERI 2016 Conference Proceedings volume.

The accepted papers will be included in the program of the Workshop for their presentation at the Workshop. The accepted papers written in English will be published in the ICTERI 2016 Proceedings Volume (at CEUR-WS, http://ceur-ws.org/). This publication qualifies as an international publication with the German ISBN. This proceedings volume will be published electronically and indexed by DBLP, Scopus and Google Scholar.

The best papers after their presentation and discussion at the workshop may be invited to be published in their refined and extended versions in the Post-proceedings of ICTERI 2016 to be published by the Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS, http://www.springer.com/series/7899 pending acceptance). Only the papers written in English will be considered as the candidates for the post-proceedings. Refined and extended versions of the papers will undergo a review by the members of the ICTERI program committee. The ICTERI Steering Committee will decide upon the acceptance for this CCIS volume.

The papers accepted for 3L-Person Workshop may be invited for publication in the Special Issue of the Journal of Information Technologies and learning Tools (http://journal.iitta.gov.ua/index.php/itlt).

Presentation

Accepted papers must be presented at the workshop by one of their authors, who commits to register and attend the conference. The Program Chairs of ICTERI 2016 reserve the right to exclude papers which have not been presented from the published proceedings.
